Woo Hoo! John Deere is Here!

The John Deere 3203 with a shredder and loader was delivered late this afternoon while I was at work. Larry met them at the farm but the mosquitos were so bad that he didn't stick around. The hard work, allergy attacks and mosquito bites begin this weekend...and for some reason, I'm looking forward to it.

Cute Ponies

The neighbors have miniature horses. They are so sweet!

West Texas Wind

Larry and Dustin went to the ranch Thursday, May 1. Look what they found!

Gary's trailer was in there. The rest of the stuff belongs to the previous owner. The trailer only had a couple of small scratches. Sorry Gary!

The roof was several yards away in the CRP field north of us. On Saturday, May 3rd, the previous owner and two of his hard working boys retrieved the roof and all the metal that blew away. It took at least two trailer loads to get all the metal. They worked with us all day Saturday to stabilize the standing walls. They did a great job. We are very grateful to them.

New Discoveries

Wildlife
No, I'm not talking about Pepe! We are very happy to find out about the wildlife that is sometimes seen on our property. Larry, his uncle, cousin and I saw about 14 quail back in December. This past weekend, Pepe and I flushed about 40 dove. I spoke with the previous owner today and learned that he has seen deer in the area and a couple of pairs of pheasants. Apparently, the draw just west of us is dry and the deer are coming up for water in the horse troughs. Our first project will be building a guzzler. That is a system of collecting rainwater, then making it available to wildlife. Here's a link for more information.

Unfortunate Wildlife
The previous owner killed 12 prairie rattlers (surprisingly not diamondbacks) during the first two years he lived there. He found the den and destroyed it. I think I'll be buying snake boots!
I'm so excited and get more excited after each visit. Everytime I go out there I find something new. It's very exciting! I can't wait to start working on it!
